Green Star Award
14 Oct 2011
PRUPIM is delighted to announce that three of its funds under management have been awarded a ‘Green Star’ in the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB). Around 340 real estate funds with nearly a trillion USD of assets participated in the 2011 benchmark, covering around 21,000 assets. A Green Star is awarded to the top performing funds in the benchmark, and only 65 funds were awarded this accolade in the most recent survey. By achieving this on three funds PRUPIM continues to demonstrate its leadership in integrating sustainability into our fund management activities.
PRUPIM was one of the first real estate fund managers to publically report its approach to sustainability. We believe that sector-leading approach to Responsible Property Investment enables us to manage and respond to the growing range of environmental and social issues that can impact property values, helping us protect and enhance fund and asset performance for our clients. Nina Jackson, Head of Sustainability, oversees the direction and implementation of our strategy, and we continue to make improvements. Significant recent highlights include:
• Embedding sustainability into the asset appraisal processes through the inclusion of sustainability questions into our bespoke “FairVal” “worth appraisal” system
• Improving energy efficiency by 15% at our shopping centres and 9% at our multi-let offices since 2008/09 on a like for like basis
• Undertaking an extensive sustainability education programme for all staff, with modules specifically tailored to the requirements of every discipline
